All,

As a connoisseur of all fine things in life, I particularly enjoyed DrSmellThis’ recent thread about the world’s finest perfumes. Seeing no other relevant threads to skincare solutions other than a brief post on exfoliants, I wanted to open some discussion on favorite cleansers, toners, moisturizers, and other dermatologic products for maintaining a healthy complexion.

Dr. Perricone is a Yale-trained dermatologist, having finished early in only 3 years with distinction. He is the author of 3 New York Times number 1 best selling books. The list of his professional accolades from the top scientific institutions stretches several pages, so I direct you to his website for those (http://www.nvperriconemd.com (http://www.nvperriconemd.com/)).

The science of his skincare solutions includes a three-pronged approach to finer skin: through diet, neutraceutical supplements and his award-winning line of cosmeceuticals. He has identified substances that he believes stop inflammation—neuropeptides, alpha lipoic acid and DMAE to name a few—and returns them to the body, both internally through diet and supplements, and externally through his line of skincare. He believes that inflammation is responsible for skin-related problems like breakouts, wrinkles and sagging skin. Dr. Perricone thinks that if inflammation can be stopped the skin’s aging process will slow down. He has created an anti-inflammation plan that combines a specialized diet plus topical treatments, which he believes will help reverse the aging process.

I have found Perricone skincare products to far outshine any others I have tried in terms of pore size, skin tautness, and any breakout frequency. I have tried fine Japanese solutions such as DHC (which I still recommend as superior products) as well as other clinical dermatologist lines like Brandt, Murad, etc. I particularly favor Perricone due to the anti aging and toning effects of NTP complex (DMAE) and the glowing and restorative effects of alpha lipoic acid (all of which may be purchased at your local health foods store, I might add as a counter point). I have not yet dropped the change on the full body line (which includes restorative creams, etc.) at about $450; but I have found the basic facial line of the Vitamin C Ester Citrus Facial Wash, Alpha Lipoic Acid Firming Facial Toner with DMAE, and Pore Refining Moisturizer at around $100 to meet my needs.

Later,
