How about these.
The description of wealthy people as being the "upper crust" came form the early days of bread being bought at bakeries (as opposed to being made at home). The early ovens couldn't control heat very well, so the bread came out with the bottom being burned (or close to it), the middle being dark brown and the top being just right. The bakers would cut the bread horizontily, and only the rich culd afford the top portion, or the upper crust.
"Bringing home the bacon" also came from a time when bacon was pretty pricy. When some one was able to afford to buy bacon, they would actually hang it in the front of their house to show off! Their neighbors would then say, "look who's bringing home the bacon".
This is fun, do more!

Three sheets to the wind :drunk:
On a small boat there are three sheets that control the sails. The Main Sheet controls the mainsail, and two sheets that control the headsail the Windward Sheet and the Leeward Sheet. So a person that has three sheets to the wind means that the sheets are flying with the wind i.e. you do not have control of the boat. Much like someone who has three sheets to the wind does not have control over themselves.
