The reason this report is important is because it reflects on the ability to detect minimal differences in olfactory characteristics --in this case using a device that is far less sensitive than is the human nose. Other mammals have been trained to "sniff out" different types of cancer. Other mammals can "sniff out" differences in tissue type (genetic diversity). It seems likely that humans may also be able to detect (unconsciously) disease processes in other humans that reflect reproductive fitness via pheromone signatures, because humans also can "sniff out" differences in tissue type.
