Default Unisex Perfume Recipe

Time for

another formula for you enterprising souls! Recipes such as this and some of the others here don\'t just smell

nice, but also teach basic skills essential for learning the art of perfuming. Ambergris, which comes from whale

bellies, is one of the most valued and expensive substances in all of perfumery. Real ambergris, a celebrated

aphrodisiac, is too expensive for most pocketbooks, and some of it is collected through \"politically incorrect\"

means. So here is my simple but classic \"fake ambergris\" recipe that uses real EO\'s. There are countless

varieties of amber used in perfumery, but this recipe contains quite a bit of implicit, basic information. This is

an ideal cover scent mix for men or women, and can be worn everywhere, as a sexy (of course) perfume that absolutely

will not offend anyone. It gives the psychological effect of making the user and those surrounding feel safe,

amorous, and comfortable. Try it and see, said the blind man. I

am providing three versions, which turn on whether one uses the optional ingredients, which are intended to more

closely mimic the fishy, musky aspects of real ambergris. I gahr-on-tee, y\'all will lahk it -- no foolin\':

(translation provided for those who speak \"SRH-bonics\")

Ambergris Alert!

7 benzoin
1

vanilla EO (Oshadi\'s works very well here)
1 labdanum (very cheap at Liberty currently)
1 sandalwood
1

oak moss (Optional)
1 ambrette seed (Optional. Pricey. Best source is Liberty, which ain\'t so bad, but please

avoid the inferior CO2 version)
1 balsam peru
1 cardamom, 20:1 dilute (Happy, Elana?

)
40 jojoba

Mix the oils, and let them mature for

three days, away from light, in a sealed glass container. At the end of the three days, add the jojoba oil and mix

thoroughly. Let this mix mature another three days, and enjoy! -- DST

Well, I

don\'t know about sacrificing beer money, though Lent is just around the corner, but I expect some of you to get

busy with this formula! I almost wanted to keep it secret, as most perfumers do with their amber recipes(!), since

it is so often used in their perfumes and so basic to their art. The equivalent would be a professional Indian chef

giving away a curry recipe. But I was feeling generous, with all the warm fuzzies. Anyway, I\'ve never made amber

the same way twice, since I stubbornly cling to my own creativity, rebelling against myself. Tomorrow I\'ll just

disown the formula. So I figured, \"what the hell\"!

What could one

substitute for the following:

May Chang--lemon?

yarrow--German

chamomile?

tanecetum--chamomile?

that is similar in scent?

May Chang, or litsea,

is one of my favorite citrus notes, for when you want your citrus note to extend down into the middle ranges. A

mixture of lemon and lemongrass would be a good substitute, but litsea is very useful in perfuming and not that

expensive. Yarrow is a close relative of chamomile (both contain lots of azulene), and so you could try substituting

Roman or German chamomile, depending on what you\'re going for. If you use yarrow, English yarrow is preferred.

Tanecetum is just the Latin name for Morrocan chamomile, so that is what you\'d look for.

As usual, with such

things you just have to smell them all carefully, using your imagination, and make up your own mind.

I asked because I found a few EO

blends that call for them that I want to play around with a bit to figure out the recipe so I can make my own

personalized version. It looks as if the ingredients were chosen partly because of the scent and partly because of

the aromatherapy qualities. I don\'t have those three EO\'s, have never needed them, and I won\'t have a

chance to get them for a while even if I decide I must have them, but in the meantime I want to make the mix. If I

want the scent to be as similar as possible, it only makes sense to see what is comparable scent-wise, then I can

figure out what\'s close in AT properties.

Default Some random and randy thoughts

OK, I

bought the makings of Randy Pants and some other stuff.

I should have figured that I wouldn\'t like bitter

orange. I can\'t stand any kind of food with citrus zest, like fruit cake. That bitter orange reminds me of it.

I\'ll have to redo randy pants sans bitter orange.

I bought some frankincense with my essential oil order.

Remember when people were posting about Good and Plenty being the sexiest smell? (Note to people unfamiliar with USA

trivia: Good & Plenty is a candy with a kind of licorice flavor.) Frankincense, to me, has a great aroma with

some licorice notes. Does DrSmellThis or anyone else have any suggestions for how to use, other than straight? I

think that it\'s a great smell. BTW, I ordered my stuff from Mountain Rose, which I found from Sagacious1420\'s

link. Thanks.

Frankincense smells woody/spicy, so it goes well with all wood and spice related things, including licorice smells

(anise).

Sorry you didn\'t like the bitter orange, but that\'s what the other versions of the formula

are for. I\'m not a huge citrus guy either, but BO is one of the least annoying citrus smells to me. It\'s a bit

more masculine, as is lime.

Frankincense goes well with orange, BTW; as well as jasmine. Then there\'s

myrrh, of course.
